Takoja Retreat 2020 / The Anthropocene: Resonating with Mother Earth

COVID-19 UPDATE: With an abundance of caution, and for the safety and well-being of our community, we have decided to cancel the retreat this year, but we look forward to welcoming everyone out on the land in 2021.

We believe that gathering places like Takoja, are going to be important now more than ever as we band together to support each other, and heal from this global pandemic...not to mention, the opportunity to take a much-needed break from Zoom meetings. This is another chapter in Takoja’s history and legacy - we will be back, we are resilient ... after all “takoja” translates to seven generations before, and seven generations thereafter.

If you would like to support Takoja during this time, in order to create the kind of engaging and impactful programs you expect from us when we welcome you again, please consider making a donation in any amount here.

Full Moon Ceremony | Curated by Lily Montgomery and Quinlin Messenger

Takoja has many gifts that can awaken thoughts of spirituality, and illuminate corners of our spirits: one of these is the light of the full moon. The full moon can stimulate the subconscious mind and heighten our ability to feel, giving rise to thoughts and reflection, and space to commune with ancestors. Joining in ceremony, you will be led on unique voyage through the landscape by some of our featured artists and workshop leads; a unique opportunity to re-discover yourself through mindful meditation, and celestial resonance.

2020 Takoja Arts Initiative Coordinator | Lily Reeves Montgomery

Takoja's annual curator and coordinator, is a sculptor working across all mediums, with a current emphasis on light art and performance. Her work is heavily influenced from southeastern folk art and southern gothic literature, and she uses light as a visual metaphor for the phenomena of life. By using ritual and supernatural aspects in her performances and installations, she comments on the decline in the variety of outlets for this shared spiritualism, and creates a metaphysical environment that speaks to this awe-inspiring presence of life and interconnectivity which we so often dismiss.
